Behind the singer songwriter and art pop persona Stormryttaren (translated as Storm rider) is Julia Stokes, who grew up in the Swedish countryside. Singing before she could speak, Julia’s fascination with music began early, exploring the piano at home and later taking classical lessons where she discovered one of her favorite composers, Erik Satie. Among her other early inspirations you find artists like Björk, Portishead and Depeche Mode. Her teenage years sparked a love for jazz singing, leading her to study jazz music and to a fifteen-year-long engagement with her touring jazz band Swing Tarturo. Julia’s music often emerges from melodies that pop into her head or from a new phrase at the piano, embodying the lyrics that she feels need to be said or heard.
Described as “Dreamy art pop,” her music draws comparisons to Kate Bush, Bat for Lashes, and AURORA. Her music guides the listener to move focus from the tangible to the unseen. Julia's vision: "The world is to be embraced with the spirit of a Stormrider - fully present and playfully engaging in the magic of everyday life.”
